Improve Windows 10’s performance

Windows 10 may be faster than previous versions, but even Microsoft's latest OS can slow down. Use these steps to improve Windows 10’s performance.

1. Disable some startup programs

There’s quite a lot of preinstalled software that comes with your PC along with things you probably installed yourself. Both can launch unnecessary background processes while your PC boots, thereby impacting your RAM and CPU. This slows down your PC. Disabling these programs during system startup is one way to optimize Windows 10’s performance. You can actually easily do this with our CCleaner app

2. Plan your Windows updates

Another effective way to improve Windows 10’s performance or, likewise, curb Windows 10’s slow performance is by managing your updates. Windows updates can take up a lot of system resources. If you have these on an automatic setting, change it so these updates run at a time of day when you don’t really need your PC.

3. Turn off ‘Visual Effects’

You can also improve Windows 10’s performance by turning off ‘Visual Effects’ in Windows 10. This will help optimize Windows 10, especially if you're using an older system. To access the right menu, press the ‘Windows’ keyboard button plus ‘R’ and enter the command ‘SystemPropertiesPerformance.exe.’

4. Check for hard drive errors

Another way to optimize Windows 10’s performance is by running a hard drive check. This is to see if there are sectors of the disk causing it to slow down. If there is, try defragging it using a tool like CCleaner’s Defraggler to help your hard drive work more effectively. Likewise, your computer's performance should improve.

5. Update your drivers

If your PC’s hardware drivers are not up to date, this could be the cause behind Windows 10’s slow performance. So make sure they’re always updated to the latest version. Nobody wants their computer running slow, so use the tips above to help improve Windows 10’s performance.

6. Download CCleaner

Remember there’s a much easier way to optimize Windows 10’s performance. CCleaner seeks out problematic, inessential files on your PC that can potentially disrupt its performance and cleans them, such as Windows system files like memory dumps, log files and other temporary files. You can also use CCleaner’s Defraggler to defrag your hard drive or disable unnecessary startup programs. CCleaner removes the need for you to toggle system settings and manage programs and files yourself. Instead, it provides simple, jargon-free tools like ‘Health Check’, helping to lay bare how to improve your computer performance for Windows 10. We think it’s an effective way to optimize Windows 10’s performance and keep your computer running more efficiently.
