How to block ads on Hulu

Established in 2007, Hulu is majority-owned by The Walt Disney Company and alongside Disney+ and ESPN+ make up the main Disney streaming platforms in the US. Hulu offers a constant rotation of thousands of movies and on-demand TV shows, kids' cartoons, and premium content titles.

They also offer a growing collection of their critically acclaimed original series, as well as familiar shows from networks like ABC, Fox, and NBC. As with all streaming platforms (well, everyone we've ever heard of) they have ads. There are ways to get around the ads though, and you can do this by paying for a subscription or using a paid or free ad blocker. We'll share all the details about both options, and we're going to choose a free ad blocker that comes with a bunch of additional benefits too!

Pay for a Hulu membership to avoid or limit ads

Hulu offers different subscription tiers with various features, the most obvious being ad-free viewing or limited ads (one pre-show and one post-show). Ad placement in Hulu streams is structured in a similar way to traditional TV advertising with ads spaced throughout a program. For every hour of viewing on a Hulu basic account, you can expect to watch around 10 minutes of ads.

For many, that's too much time when they just want to watch their favorite show. Plus, unless you're paying for the top tier you will still get those 10 minutes of limited ads even though you're paying for the streaming service in the first place. However, there's another way to watch Hulu ad-free without paying a dime, and that's with an ad blocker.

How to block ads on Hulu and all sites!

Ad blockers are basically filters that scan lists on website URLs and filter unwanted results, namely advertising websites that use embedded content or websites that play ads within your web browser. Ad blockers will also identify technology favored by advertisers, such as pop-ups, display ads, and autoplay audio or video features, and stop them this way.

We created an ad blocker (called Adblock) that can block all ads (or you can allow certain websites to show ads). It comes as part of CCleaner Browser, so it will protect your privacy and security online too. CCleaner Browser's built-in Adblock feature allows you to determine how strong the ad blocking feature is with the following options available:

  • Essential - Working in conjunction with the Acceptable Ads Standard (AAS), this option will only allow certain ads that have been approved by the AAS and are deemed non-intrusive (e.g. they must be clearly labeled as advertisements and not get in the way of the page content)
  • Balanced - This recommended option blocks the same ads as essential but also blocks other non-intrusive ads while improving website load speed and online security
  • Strict - As the name suggests, this option blocks all ads, all the time

Using an ad blocker also improves page loading speed in most cases. There are many more advantages to using CCleaner Browser too, such as:

  • Improving the battery life on your laptop
  • Offering safer browsing online and total privacy
  • Reducing the amount of RAM and CPU a browser uses by up to 50%

For the easiest and cheapest way to block ads on Hulu, you can't get better than CCleaner Browser. It's free to use and comes packed with so many other great online security features. Why not join our huge community of CCleaner Browser users today and take advantage of everything it has to offer?
